Matt Jay graduated from Ringling School of Art and Design in 2003, and is now working as an insomniac free-lance illustrator in New England. He likes Halloween, Tom Waits, and anything spooky. He wishes there was a real BPRD, so he could work there. His shoes are dirty.

Started in 2002 as my Senior Thesis at Ringling, The Field has since been reshaped, realigned, and reborn as a new sort of monster. The story follows Twill, a lone scarecrow as he struggles to protect his home and survive the ravages and solitude of an ongoing war. Set against him is an entire civilization know as the Kro, a vile and bloodthirsty race of natural enigma. But the further Twill gets away from his home and the longer he fights, the more he questions his war, his beginnings, and the existence of the homestead and field he fights to protect. Filled with legendary creatures, violent imagery, and plenty of action, The Field is one of my most sacred and closely loved projects.

The final project will be done in a traditional graphic novel form. One page of text, followed by one page of art. No set length, because I can honestly see this being a long-running story. Media is still being decided, but it will more than likely be rendered in pencil, the color added digitally.
